HUNDREDS of people queued for hours to be in with a chance to get one of the 25 jobs on offer at a Boston business.

More than 600 people attended interviews for a position at the QD store, due to open at the former Woolworths site in Boston next month.

The three day event saw people queuing from as early as 8am at the New England Hotel to be interviewed.

Nicola Waterman, director of human resources at QD Stores, said: "This is the fourth new store recruitment drive we've held in recent weeks.

"Because QD is opening new high street stores and creating jobs across the country, while so many retailers hit by the recession are laying people off, there's been an increasing amount of national media interest.

"Boston has proved equally busy with people prepared to queue for hours for an interview.

"It's a great testament to people's determination; we've interviewed some fantastic candidates, all with very different personal stories behind their search for work. I only wish we could take on more.

"The new store is due to open in mid-July and as well as creating new jobs in the area, QD is also committed to supporting local causes and has a proven track record of helping local charities and schemes which will benefit the wider community."

QD's new store is another sign of the steady expansion in recent weeks by the Norwich-based retailer, which is listed among the top performing businesses in East Anglia.
