Ace news greets tennis players
A BRAND new pavilion is set to greet tennis players in Sleaford by next summer thanks to funding from the National Lottery.
Sleaford Tennis Club have been granted the maximum available award of £50,000 by Sport England's Inspired Facilities Fund to replace the current portacabin structure on the Boston Road Recreation Ground.
Once complete, the £121,000 project will provide an attractive pavilion with changing rooms, toilets, kitchen and a clubroom with viewing over the courts.
Club committee member Linda Walmsley has been involved with seeking funding for the project.

She said: "The Portakabin gives us a very basic kitchen and toilet facilities and is so small and cramped.
"Our members are thrilled at the thought of modern facilities on site. It will mean many improvements in the way the club operates including our ability to host competitions, greater potential to grow the club and we can widen our social events as we are very cramped for space in our temporary building.
"Ultimately it's going to be a wonderful improvement to the Recreation Ground.
"I always thought we were a worthy project and hoped the funders would see that and they have. It's been a lot of hard work but got the right result in the end."
The new pavilion will finish a project, started by the club over a decade ago, to replace the original council owned courts, which had fallen into decline, with a first class tennis facility for the town and surrounding villages.
Lack of available funding at the time meant the club was only able to press ahead with building the courts and floodlighting which were completed for use in September 2011.
Since then, despite limited facilities, the club has almost doubled its membership and enjoyed many successes, with junior and senior winning teams.
It is hoped building work will begin over the winter months.
Club chairman, Alison Gibson, said: "We are delighted to have secured this investment, which will enable us to build a superb pavilion to compliment the four floodlit courts already in place.
"I would like to thank the brilliant team who have put this together. It has taken many years of hard work to get the club to where it is now and I look forward to everyone coming down and enjoying this wonderful facility."
To celebrate the funding award, Sleaford Tennis Club would like to invite local people to a free taster session on Saturday from 2pm to 5pm.
The sessions are open to all and those wishing to take part don't need to have their own racquet.
