A NEWLY-FORMED community group have their sights firmly set on making a positive difference, and everyone is invited to their first summer fête.

Tower Action Group is hoping to provide the Tower Estate with a whole host of additional activities for all ages to enjoy, bring cohesion to the neighbourhood and have lots of fun in the process.

The planned summer fête in the play area on Tower Crescent takes place in August.

Along with a prize raffle, hot dogs, cakes and traditional games, the organisers are hoping the community will be able to revel in a village-style event.

Lynsey Collinson, Tower community development worker for the Lincolnshire Community Development Project, has been helping the newly-formed group as they get established and amass more members.

"I am here to support them and other projects on the estate," said Mrs Collinson, 33.

"They basically set themselves up because the estate suffered with an anti-social behaviour problem and their first main event will be a summer fête in August.

"It will give them a sense of community and identity. Our main aim is to bring Tower Estate together."

There are currently eight members including chairman Eve Wind, who has been integral in getting the group up and running.

"Initially we had a lot of vandalism and teenagers who thought they ran the estate," said Mrs Wind, 64.

After approaching Gillian Merron and the then-neighbourhood manager Paul Carrick for help with the problems facing Tower Estate, Mrs Wind and other group members decided to get proactive and join forces.

Leigh Rose, 40, is secretary for the group, and believes by getting different generations to mix in social situations they can encourage a better atmosphere in the neighbourhood.

Mrs Rose said: "We are trying to get all the youngsters to mix with the older people because at the moment they are frightened of youngsters because of the anti-social behaviour we have had in the past. We are trying to bring them all together."

The summer fête takes place on Sunday, August 22, from 11am to 5pm.

“Back in March of this year, Tower Action Group of only 5 members then, put out a newsletter asking for help, to enable the group to grow. I quote; "Why are you complaining on the Tower Estate? Is it because nothing ever gets done on the estate for the residents and children of all ages? Do you want to do something about it? Come and join the Tower Action Group." (also translated into Polish) 3 dates were given, for open meetings, people attended but NO-ONE offered constructive support by joining the group. The T.A.G.had achieved thus far; the clean up of residents gardens, implimented youth activities, through various agencies and significantly reduced vandalism, with the help of the local police. Since then 3 more active members, one being myself, have joined the group. Speaking for myself, I admire the pure determination of these individuals who are trying, apparently against a lot of negativity, to make a difference, for the better, for everyone. I believe that the misguided comments expressed by 'young mums group' is futile, they need to involve themselves by electing one of their group to attend a T.A.G. meeting. This young mum would be made welcome and I am convinced she would appreciate rather than condem the working of our group. We could help each other. With reference to some of the comments made in the letter,on the 23rd. July: Eve has in fact lived on the estate for 9yrs. and does not hate Tower Estate, only what is happening there, through a mindless minority fraction, which in turn is giving the estate a bad name Like it or not, this is fact. The park/play area on Tower Cescent is locked at 10pm in the summer months, late enough for young children, who should be in the home by then, surely! So this creates anti-social behaviour? I think not! Parents must take responsibility for knowing where and what their children are up to. I really think the estate could be the 'elite estate' it once was, as relayed to me by a number of the older residents, that have lived there for 30 plus years. They despair of the way things are on some parts of the estate. They also want activities for the over 60s, but appreciate it takes time.Lets all pull together and go forward instead of back. It shouldn't be us and them, but a collective US, for the Tower residents old and young alike.”

“The thing is these events are always 'clicky'. If they don't want your help that's their hard cheese, can't say you didn't try or offer, you really can't do any more other than attend. Their loss!”

“T.A.G well what a joke . it is made up of 8 people and that's the way they want to keep it. Me and 6 other mums asked Mr Michael cash if we could help with their activities in august and he said NO that everything was being done by them. As for Mrs eve wind the woman who hates tower estate with a passion as she made clear to her hair dresser not realising that a young lady from tower crescent was sat there listening to every word eve soon shut up when the young lady from tower crescent asked her what her problem was with tower eve only living on tower for 5 years the other young lady for the past 26 yrs who's views really count !!!! They said they wanted to get all ages mixed together but when we asked the T.A.G group they said they couldn't really do anything for the under 8s.I have lived on tower all my life and i love this estate and the kids on this estate are not that bad they just need talking to with a bit of respect the same as i would like to be spoken to instead of everyone talking to them like dirt !!!!! As for anti social behaviour well what do you expect when they lock the only park up on the estate as and when suits them, which only leaves the streets for them to walk.
Never once have we as a community been asked what we would like to see happen on our estate the T.A.G group seem to decide for everyone which is not fair as they said they wanted it to be a community experience.
my opinion is that there all in it for themselves and to see what they can get out of it our views never go and i dont think they ever will...............”
