Outdoor cinema, museum and mosque among ideas for city’s historic grandstand
A DELUGE of ideas that could decide the future of Lincoln's historic grandstand have been dreamt up by city residents.
Suggestions include transforming the dilapidated grade two-listed building into a mosque, an outdoor cinema, a museum or even using it for a naked group photo shoot.

The Carholme Road building has been neglected in recent decades, turning the once-proud structure into an eyesore.
But following the demise of a proposal to bring horse racing back to the West Common, attention has turned to resurrecting the grandstand.
West End resident Emile van der Zee was heavily involved in the campaign fighting against the horse racing proposal and has set up a website inviting suggestions for its future use.
"I think it’s great to see so many different ideas. The variety is really great and it's nice to see people are still interested in contributing, even after the racecourse idea," he said.
A private meeting involving residents plus conservation and heritage experts is also scheduled to take place next week in Lincoln.
City of Lincoln Council deputy leader Marc Jones said: "At the moment, you come down a lovely tree-lined road and the first thing you are faced with is a monument of the city's failure to look after one of its most important buildings."

“Paul, I don't know how far back you go, but the roads weren't closed on race days. There was a diversion around the back of the grandstand.”

“The worst idea is the racecourse Mr McCartney. Lincoln's roads are bad enough without them being closed.”

“I might be wrong but i'm sure the local hunts had something to do with the grandstand being done up when there was point to point racing held there then the council put a stop to that, had that been allowed to continue then the building wouldn't be in the state it is in now”

“back of old grandstand is quite nice, front facing road, is an eyesore - would a local builder be able to transform this - so it looks as nice on both sides - and even more useful as a leisure centre - and could have nice scenic views from a cafe”
