The lifestyle of troubled singer Amy Winehouse led to an assault in a Lincoln pub, a court heard.

Ann Johnson was in the Still pub in Saltergate on December 15 when she was joined by Mary Louise Tye (45).

Jane Loader, prosecuting, said Ms Johnson "would not call Ms Tye a friend but knows her to say hello to".

But after the pair, who had known each other for about six weeks, drank five pints of lager, a discussion about Amy Winehouse's lifestyle erupted in violence, Lincoln magistrates heard.

Ms Johnson suddenly felt a 'hard blow' to the nose after she expressed contempt for Winehouse's lifestyle, Miss Loader told the court.

The impact caused Ms Johnson's head to bang into a wooden partition next to her bar stool.

Tye pleaded guilty to assault by beating and told the court she had problems with alcohol and anger.

Magistrates let a current community order run and gave her a 12-month conditional discharge. She will also pay £50 compensation.
