An ambitious West Lindsey arts project will play a key role in a new festival involving 31 talented participants across three counties.

Regrouping is the latest show from art and culture champions BendInTheRiver, run from riverside buildings beside the Trent by husband-and-wife artists Marcus and Hilary Hammond, from Laughton.

It will include drawing workshops, photography, installation art, painting and soundscapes at arts venues in Lincoln, Nottingham and Sheffield. The first showcase will be hosted at converted X Church, Ashcroft Road, in Gainsborough.

"Each member of a core group of BendInTheRiver artists was asked to invite one other artist to participate in this series of shows and events," said Mr Hammond.

"Some artists simply invited a guest, others built collaborations and this has given rise to a whole range of interactions and negotiations.

"But the show is also a prelude to BendInTheRiver taking up permanent residence in the show's Sheffield venue as of January 2013."

It is hoped Regrouping will add to the vitalising of visual arts in the region.

Mr Hammond added: "It is very exciting that the dynamic of Regrouping has spread beyond our project space at X-Church in Gainsborough to other regional venues.

"BendInTheRiver has never just been an exhibition venue. It has grown from a small front-room art space open six hours a week to hosting large-scale Arts Council funded residency projects and attending national art fairs.

"And it has sold artworks, in particular contemporary painting, to a local, regional and international clientele.

"We have always put energy into supporting and developing artists and arts infrastructure in our region.

"The size and scope of Regrouping feels like a physical manifestation of all this invasive activity."

Regrouping is a funded by Arts Council England and will run at the Gainsborough venue from 11am until 5pm, Wednesday to Saturday, from September 8 until October 6. The show will be set up at the Usher Gallery in Lincoln between October 6 and 27. For more information, visit www.bendintheriver.co.uk
