Athletes impress in Norwich
SEVERAL local athletes were included in the Lincolnshire team for the Annual Anglian Counties Track and Field Championships in Norwich.
The local south east Lincolnshire zone representatives achieved 12 individual victories at Norfolk's U.E.A. track.
In the Intermediate Boys age group, Alex Pycock from Boston Grammar scored a sprint double winning the 100 metres and the 200 metres, while Sam Young (Haven High) won the 100m hurdles.
At senior level, Boston Grammar's Jake Mason prevailed in the high jump clearing 1.96m and only just removed the bar as he attempted to leap two metres.
Sean Band (Boston College) won the hammer with 42.90m.
Dominic Sykes was first in the junior boys' hammer throwing 45.78m and there were other wins from Catherine Taylor in the 3000 metres, Isabelle Whitehead (Spalding High) 400m hurdles, Kelly Lawrence (Spalding Grammar) shot 8.74m and discus 29.97m and Steph Hendy (Spalding High) hammer 38.72m.
Among the 11 South East Lincolnshire second places achieved at Norwich were some local athletes.
In the Senior Girls' section Emily Richardson (Boston High) was second in high jump with a clearance of 1.40m and added another second position in the javelin recording 29.15m.
In the senior boys championship, Jake Mason's leap of 6.24m earned him runners up spot in the long jump.
In the pole vault, Jake Brittain's (Boston College) clearance of 3.90m also earned second place points for Lincolnshire.
In the discus, Sean Band (College) threw 40.53m for second and Boston and District A.C sprinter Shamen Alloy-Langham recorded 23.1 seconds in the runners-up position in the 200 metres.
In the Intermediate age group, Sarah Stanhope (Giles) threw 38.74m for second place and all-rounder Chelsea Brockett claimed the same position in pole vault.
Richard Reed of Boston Grammar crossed the finish line second at the end of the 800 metres.
Melanie Bristow (Thomas Cowley) inched nearer to the 30 metre mark in javelin with a personal best 29.56m to claim second position and Ellis Whyler (Boston High) was runner up in long jump.
A valuable third place was achieved by Nathan Wood (Thomas Cowley) in the inter-boys 3000 metres and Sam Young (Haven High) in high jump in the same age group.
Gold Tops' Marc Bradbury's throw in discus and Chelsea Brockett in the 300m hurdles added further third place points.
In the same age group Demi Bari ( Haven High) cleared 1.50m to claim third in the inter-girls High Jump and Sarah Stanhope's (Giles) throw with the 1K discus earned further third place points.
At senior level Jake Brittain from Boston College went over 1.70m in high jump for third and Boston and District AC club mate, Stephan Brockett, was in the same position in both pole vault 3.60m and 400 metres.
There were other impressive performances from Maria Hollingsworth (Boston High) junior girls 75m hurdles who finished fourth and Haden Brittain (Thomas Cowley) in the intermediate boys' hammer fourth 47.44m.
Jeremy Baily (Boston Grammar), in the Inter-Boys Triple Jump.
Wednesday Pywowariw (Boston High) and Ellis Whyler, in the Inter-Girls 80m Hurdles all finished fourth.
Fifth places were earned by Intermediate, Jasmine Orrey (Boston High), in both long jump 4.67m and Triple Jump 9.31m.
Isabelle Whitehead from Spalding High claimed the same position in the Senior Triple Jump.
Jordan Nuttell (Middlecott) in the 80m Hurdles also finished fourth 13.2 secs.
Lincolnshire has the maximum number of qualifiers entered in the English Schools Athletic Association Track and Field Championships at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium next month.
