The 12th Bailgate Busking Festival will take place on July 14 - with organisers hoping for a dry day.

Musicians are tuning up their instruments and preparing to play half-hour sets at four locations around the city's cathedral and castle.

Organiser of the Lincoln big-backed festival, Steve Jackson, said a superb range of performers have confirmed their attendance at the festival, but they are keeping their fingers crossed the rain holds off.

"Despite the planning that goes on, there is no control over the weather," said Mr Jackson.

"Rain is like kryptonite for buskers and it's difficult to have a plan B for what is an open air event.

"The way the weather is behaving at the moment, it's difficult to predict what it will be, but I've put a request in for sunshine."

Acts confirmed for the festival include the medieval music group Chevrette, folk meets jazz duo Colin Holland and Gerry Wiswould; The Coffee Bar Cowboys and young country n' punk-influenced band That's Not Me.

Lincoln big events and promotions manager Michael Armstrong said: "There's another great line-up for this event, which grows in popularity every year.

"People can find the most up-to-date version of who will be playing where on our Lincoln busking facebook site."

Buskers will be performing between 10.30am and 4.30pm at venues including St Mary Magelene Church.
