Project consultant and authorised lay minister of All Saints Church Mike Houldershaw said: "The water damage to the church was really quite extensive and up until we had the roof repaired, we couldn't consider correcting the damage.

"Now the new roof is in place with better rain water drainage, we can redecorate and put right the damage caused."

All Saints Church is a central part of the community and suffered water damage before the church was re-roofed in 2011. The damage to the walls was extensive and in need of re-plastering, painting walls and wood-panelling as well as resorting a George III coat of arms. The funding for the work is ahead of the church's bi-centenary celebrations in September this year, which is being arranged by churchwardens Elizabeth Richards and Katie Moss.

Mike added: "It's wonderful we can do this ahead of our bi-centenary celebrations in a few weeks time.

"We are extremely grateful to Bernard Matthews Farms for the award."

The grant was awarded as part of the sixth round of donations from The Bernard Matthews Fund.

However, it was not only All Saints Church who has gained from the grant.

Boston and District Cruse, a support group for people who have suffered bereavement, has received a £1,579 grant to contribute towards office equipment.

Fundraising co-ordinator of Boston and District Cruse Debbie Belton said: "The charity provides an important support to people who need help and guidance after bereavement.

"The service we provide relies upon charitable contributions so it was wonderful to receive this funding, which will go towards vital office equipment.

"We are extremely grateful to Bernard Matthews Farms for the award."

Launched in October 2009 to help a wide range of rural charities and voluntary initiatives across Norfolk, north Suffolk and Lincolnshire, the fund has already provided over £36,000 in grants. '

Andrew Sherwood, human resources director at Bernard Matthews Farms, said: "Supporting groups working in the heart of our communities has always been important to Bernard Matthews Farms and the fund is just one aspect of our commitment to corporate responsibility.

"The fund aims to give at a truly local level and make a real difference to communities such as helping All Saints Church and Boston and District Cruse.
