Billy Jackson ready to defend his world indoor bowls single title
Billy Jackson admits spending a few days away from the world bowls championship has cleared his head, as he begins the defence of his indoor singles crown today.
The Lincoln competitor was involved in a dramatic pairs final on Sunday, when he and partner David Gourlay – winners in 2006 and 2007 – lost out in a nerve-jangling tie-break to 2008 winners Andy Thomson and Ian Bond.

Jackson and Gourlay were defeated by a shot Thomson described as "the greatest bowl I've ever played" but despite only narrowly missing out on a hat-trick of titles, the reigning singles champion still made a 4.30am drive home to Lincoln the next morning in an attempt to spend some time away from the event in Hopton-on-Sea, Norfolk.
And ahead of his second round clash against Canada's Hirendra Bhartu today – Jackson received a bye in the first round – the player himself feels the break has been of great benefit.
"Had I stayed there following Sunday's game, I would have sat around pondering and wondering," admitted Jackson.
