While Billy Jackson and his pairs partner David Gourlay compliment each other during matches, in between games they could not be more different.

Lincoln's world champion Jackson will be pulling out all the stops to avoid the practice rinks ahead of today's pairs quarter-final at the World Indoor Championships in Norfolk.

Meanwhile, playing partner Gourlay will be on the rink at every opportunity.

The pair, who are former winners of the competition, are due to meet Australian qualifiers Brett Wilkie and David Casey today.

But Jackson is determined not to do any practice until half an hour before the game.

"Practice? I didn't bother," revealed Jackson yesterday.

"But that's nothing unusual for me, I tend not to do much practising. I get so fed up with it I generally just don't do it. It's just one of those things.

"It has worked out okay for me in the past so why should I change in the way I prepare?

"People do ask me 'why haven't you booked a practice session?' but I just like to use the matches and the competition to get my eye in.

"My partner, though, could not be more different. He is on the rinks any chance he gets. People prepare in different ways and his way suits him."
