Nathan Stainfield insists Boston United will be at full throttle when they return to league combat, despite their agonising FA Cup exit.

The Pilgrims are back in Blue Square Bet North action at home to Worcester City on Saturday aiming to make up ground on the play-off zone.

Jason Lee's side then face a tricky trip to Stalybridge on Tuesday before the rescheduled home derby with Gainsborough Trinity on November 3.

Boston dropped to 13th while on cup duty on Saturday, but in such a tight division three points against Worcester could catapult them up the table.

And Stainfield is adamant there will be no hangover from the 3-1 cup defeat to Altrincham, a tie Boston ended with nine men.

"We can take a lot of positives out of the match," said Stainfield.

"After the sendings off, that could quite easily have been five or six because Altrincham score goals for fun.

"We can take a lot pluses out that game and we will go into the Worcester match at full throttle."

While hugely disappointed at seeing their cup hopes dashed, Stainfield took some pride from keeping highly-rated Altrincham striker Damian Reeves quiet.

Reeves struck 40 goals last season and was wanted by a string of clubs over the summer, including Lincoln City and Gainsborough Trinity, before opting to stay put.

"I said to Tom (Ward) at the end, at least Reeves didn't score," said Stainfield.

"He only needs one sniff at goal and his movement is very clever.

"We're fortunate to mark someone like Newsh (Marc Newsham) in training because he is a similar sort of player.

"Newsham probably drops a bit deeper and has a bit more to his game while Damian is an out and out goalscorer.

"I'm happy he didn't score, but gutted we didn't get through."

Ben Fairclough and Spencer Weir-Daley saw red against Altrincham and will begin their three-match bans following the visit to Stalybridge.

The pair's absence for three important games will see manager Lee explore the transfer market for reinforcements.

The Pilgrims boss has also challenged the squad's fringe players – the likes of Jason Stokes, Kallum Smith and James Reed – to stake a claim for a place in the side.

Youngster Charley Sanders is also in Lee's thinking after making an impressive impact off the bench against Altrincham.

The 17-year-old youth team player came on with nine-man Boston 2-1 down, but still caused problems and almost netted a remarkable equaliser when a curling late effort dropped inches wide.

"I like the fact, although he's only 17, he's got aggression and he looks after himself," said Lee.

"I've seen him step up this season and play in the reserves and cause all sorts of problems.

"He's made his debut now and I'm hoping all the youngsters around the club will be thinking 'I want a piece of that'.

"We had Scott Dawson, a centre-half from the reserves, on the bench on Saturday too.

"We will try and blood youngsters when we can."
