CALLUM JOHNSON could be set for a dream shot at the Commonwealth title should he win his next fight in October.

The Boston fighter will figure on the undercard of Nathan Cleverly's defence of the WBO light-heavyweight crown when he faces Ukrainian Vyacheslav Uzelkov at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena.

Johnson, who fights at the same weight as Cleverly, is yet to have his opponent confirmed.

But the rising star (pictured), who is managed by Frank Warren, has been told victory will pave the way to a title shot.

That could result in a fight for the Commonwealth title currently held by Ovill Mckenzie who defends it on the same night against Enzo Maccarinelli.

"I'm buzzing because I've been told a title shot could be mine in December," he said.

"It could be for the Commonwealth title or the WBO inter continental crown.

"As a boxer, they are the occasions you dream about especially if it's the Commonwealth.

"I already have the amateur version of the title and it would be nice to add the pro version to it.

"It would be an honour and a privilege to fight for it."

A cautious Johnson is refusing to get too carried away, however, having admitted an off night in Cardiff could blow his dream apart.

But the Commonwealth gold medalist says he has no intention of losing focus in what is a pivotal stage of his career.

"Although it's nice to be talked about in terms of fighting for titles, I am not going to get carried away.

"I have this fight in October first and that is the only thing I am concentrating on at the moment.

"Lose that and it will be curtains anyway, but rest assured I don't intend to."
