Boston business referred to in Mayor of London, Boris Johnson's Conservative Party Speech in Birmingham
A BOSTON company which already has a Mayor of London Award has been mentioned in Boris Johnson's speech at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham's Symphony Hall.
Calders and Grandidge, situated in London Road, Boston, was the firm Mayor of London Johnson was referring to as he spoke about the economy.

He said: "….and when we buy new trains we drive jobs in Derby, conductor rail from Chard, CCTV from Warwick, railway sleepers from Boston.
"And, if we build that platform for growth – with better education, with safer street, with more housing and better transport infrastructure then the private sector will produce amazing and world-beating results."

Two years ago Calders abd Grandidge, which was established in the 1920s, was awarded the Mayor of London Award after sourcing its timber from sustainable forests.
And, in 1986 the business was granted a royal warrant for the supply preserved timber fencing and gates to the Queen. Since then products supplied by Calders and Grandidge have been a part of the scenery at the much loved country retreat of Her Majesty, Sandringham.
Commercial and finance director Shaun McGarry said: "The mention from Boris in this speech is a complete surprise, but we did receive a Mayor of London award for ethical sourcing two years ago. He has remembered us."
* In his speech Johnson had activists laughing and PM David Cameron squirming as he mixed jokes with talk about jobs, homes, transport, tax and Britain's "can do" spirit.
He finished by wishing the PM a happy birthday before reminding Cameron that he'd recently referred to Johnson as a 'blond-haired mop', adding: "If I am a mop, David Cameron, you are a broom - a broom that is clearing up the mess left by the Labour government, and a fantastic job you are doing. I congratulate you and your colleagues – George Osborne the dustpan, Michael Gove the J Cloth, William Hague the sponge."
