Boston 1st XV 15 Worksop 1st XV 18

In the last play of the game, with Boston 15-11 ahead, Worksop scored a try to break the hosts' hearts.

Boston will look back on this Midlands Three East (North) match and rue the amount of basic mistakes and handling errors, which placed them at times under unnecessary pressure and allowed Worksop to remain camped in Boston's half.

In fact Boston were only allowed to venture into Worksop's half on four occasions, a telling statistic.

The first half was a very different story with the home side starting brightly and scoring after two minutes when back row James Fitzpatrick seized on a loose ball from a Worksop lineout five metres from the line to bulldoze his way over.

Shortly after the impressive Fitzpatrick was again instrumental in this time creating the opportunity for winger Mathew Deane to score in the corner. Fitzpatrick's break from the 10-metre line, saw him jink down the line to eventually pass to winger Mathew Deane to score, to take Boston into a 10-0 lead. A Worksop penalty, saw Boston enter half time 10-3 ahead.

The second half started an ended disastrously for the blue and whites.

A mistake in the backs allowed Worksop to score a try from a charge down kick after five minutes, to narrow the deficit to 10-8.

With one-way traffic heading to the Boston whitewash, it was only brave defence which prevented the visitors from scoring, their only reward for all the pressure would be a penalty to take the lead for the first time 10-11.

In a rare foray, Boston, through John Paylin, scored.

After an initial break from Liam Smith, good hands in the backs with Marc Miles, providing the link, saw Mathew Deane produce another strong run, to enable what the home crowd thought would be the winning score.

This proved not to be the case as Boston failed to close out the game and from a quick tap penalty inside Boston's half, Worksop scored under the posts to gain victory.

Next week Boston entertain Kesteven at home, kick off 2.15pm.
