Boston get win performances have deserved
Boston finally got the win their recent form over the last four games had deserved, defeating Market Deeping 24-13 in the Midlands Divisional Cup.
Captain Mark Miles had stressed before the game that his Midlands Three East (North) side should show belief that they would win, having played some attractive rugby, without getting the results in their last four games.
The first half started badly, with Deepings taking advantage of the wind to pin the Boardsiders in their own half and early scoring opportunities were only averted by strong tackling by Ady Hart and Matt Sharman, who went off injured after a saving tackle.
However, the dominance of the Deepings scrum saw them cross the try line first, followed shortly by another and a converted penalty bringing the half-time score to 13-0.
At half-time, it was decided that Tom Brooks would look to maximise the wind by using his boot to pin Deepings into their own half, a tactic that worked to good effect as the visitors rarely ventured into Boston's half after the break.
Boston's first try came from a set-piece line-out that involved every member of the team.
Joe Deamer took the ball from a Craig Dowse throw with the rest of the forward spilling over to secure good ball for scrum-half Perry Clumber on the right touchline.
Perry then spun the ball which went through every backs hand for man-of-the-match Michael Mitchell to score in the opposite corner.
This try turned the match and the home side's confidence grew to the extent that at the restart Jason Pedley took the ball and powered his way forward.
This gave the perfect platform for the backs to run a move which resulted in Michael Mitchell scoring under the posts bringing the score to 13-12 in favour of the visitors.
Jason Pedley, in his first season playing rugby, then marauded forward once more but was held up on the line.
However, he had the presence of mind to pop the ball to the veteran Taff Lane who easily crossed the line of defenders to put Boston into the lead.
Once the home side were in front the game became a little scrappy as both teams tried to close the game out, but it was Tom Brooks from Boston who secured the points with a try from broken play.
Tom also kicked the conversion to bring the final score to 24-13.
Special mention should be made of the contribution of Craig Dowse who was outstanding as hooker under pressure, while Ady Hart put his body on the line time and time again before going off injured.
Next week sees the return to league action away against Ashby with the second team at home against Grimsby.
