A cat show staged in Bourne this weekend is being hailed a 'phenomenal' success after recording the highest number of visitors to any of the organiser's events in the past 10 years.

The Aristocats Cat Club International Cat Show, part of Felis Britannica, at Bourne Leisure Centre, attracted more than 350 feline fans - the largest turnout in more than 100 of its shows staged around the country.

John Tipper, public relations officer, told bournepeople: "It was a phenomenal success, with the event really well supported by the people of Bourne and further afield.

"There was great interest in the breeds and the 130 cats on show.

"I know the exhibitors enjoyed speaking to visitors about their cats.

"This level of support means we will definitely hold another show in the town next year."

But Mr Tipping said the 2013 show could be a one-day event because of problems finding cat-friendly accommodation in and around Bourne.

"We only had 56 exhibitors and we usually see about 80 - so to be honest it was a small show.

"Many more wanted to come but could not find anywhere to stay.

"The Wishing Well in Dyke was the only local bed and breakfast I could find that would take cats.

"Other exhibitors stayed in accommodation up to 30 minutes away from Bourne which is not ideal.

"If we could find more cat-friendly bed and breakfasts we could stage a much bigger show," he added.

Mr Tipper said if suitable accommodation could be found then next year's show would run over a weekend.

He is asking any bed and breakfast establishments in and around Bourne that can offer accommodation to exhibitors and their feline friends to contact him by e-mail at john.tipper@btinternet.com.
