Proud mums in Lincolnshire are posing for a new calendar to promote breast feeding in public.

The women are taking a leaf from the success of the Yorkshire WI Calendar Girls to get their message across, but with one crucial difference.

These ladies are keeping their breasts out of view when they go in front of the camera.

The mums are being photographed breast feeding in various public settings – without flashing the flesh.

They want to prove that breast feeding in social settings can be achieved without embarrassment either for mum or onlookers.

They also hope their efforts will encourage more women to try breast feeding.

The mums are members of the Breast Start club, based at Lincoln's Sure Start centre in St Andrew's Close.

The club was set up to offer support and advice to nursing mums.

Many members have received formal training from national support group La Leche League.

Joleen Bromfield (27), mum to 22-month-old Layla, said she hoped the calendar would raise the profile of breast feeding.

"So many mums choose not to feed or give up early on," she said.

"But we are just a group of normal women who want to show that it is possible to feed easily.

"Some women are put off by the thought of feeding in public but we hope the calendar will prove that you don't have to have lots of flesh on show and you can feed your child without anyone else seeing anything."

The photographs in the calendar will be taken in public places around Lincoln.

Women will be shown feeding in parks, cafes and on city centre benches.

“Adam, I find your comments both sickening in that your attitude is both offensive (not remotly jovial) and archaic, and shocking that such ignorance and misinformation still exosts regarding formula.
FYI if your dd is lactose intollerant your wife would have served her health better by removing dairy from her own diet, I could of course be wrong but cases of babies truely being allergic to breastmilk are ubber rare like seriousley the thing about lactose intollerance is that cows milk is very hard on the human gut especially that of the infant which is not fully developed it can cause much agrivation and is very hard for it to digest wereas human milk is the perfect food for human babies. Also as you may or may not be aware soy formula is linked to early development in girls and femenine type development and low sperm count in boys it is a plant derived "milk" which contains high levels of phytoeastrogens which are harmfull to human development if given in high amounts from a young age. cutting dairy from your own diet is by far the most beneficial way to deal with lactose intollerance in the breastfed baby. Also bottles are not neceasry for a bf mother to use in public and do nothing to promote breastfeeding I would never use a bottle for this reason it also causes great harm to bf as the milk flows so easily from the teat that a baby can often refuse the breast after being given a bottle thus ending the bf relationship.
A further note I would like to address is your insistance that formula is just the same as bm this is shocking to see written down and shows just how important pro bf campaigns are. Yes colostrum is a highly potent and very important 1st food, however breastmilk goes on to be the best (by virtue of natural evolution) food for human babies it contains imune cells, the exact right ballance and types of protiens ect fats which help the brain to develop and the right ballance of the right type of vitamins minerals ect. Infact the type of vits ect added to formula is the exact opposite they are cheap syntheticly made and badly absorbed yes formula often contains high volumes of things such as vit d iron ect but in breastmilk they are bioavailable which means the body can use them effectivly and in formula these syntheticly maurfactured vits are badly absorbed and difficult for the body to use and in the case of iron especially can cause great difficulty and discomfort to the child, are you aware of how unlikely a breastfed baby is to become constipated as oposed to formula fed babies whom in my experience can often suffer horribly with this condition. I could go one all day listing the differences between the two. breastmilk is a living substance which constanlty evolves and taylors itself to the needs of the baby who is being nursed at the breast the saliva is picked up by glands on the nipple sending messages to the pituity gland which tell the mothers body to alter the milk acording to the childs specific daily needs be them exposure to illness or simply the heat of the day ie in hot weather the milk becomes more thirst quenching and in cold more fatty. breastmik is an incredable and sadly much underated substance but rest assured Adam it is not just the same as formula.
Also if you do propper reasearch online you can easily discover the ingredients which are not listed on the back of the tin you would be shocked!”

“I'm sure that those of you who think breast feeding is a disgrace would also be the same people who would moan if a baby was screaming in a restaurant and they were disturbing you,and if you answer to that is go and feed them in the toilet. I challenge you to take you meal into the toilet and sit there and eat it!!!!”

“I'm entering this debate late on, and can't believe some of the stupid, immature comments made by certain individuals (adam). I'm sure you don't vomit everytime you see page 3 or a copy of Nuts , or maybe you do....so then i feel sorry for you, your wife and your local newsagent.
Isn't this all just a case of live and let live, everyday people make different choices, and do different things, we don't all have to agree. just grow up and let people live their lives! Instead of having a go at breast feeding mothers, just carry on with what you were doing and mind your own business.
well done all you mothers out there breast feeding in public! (it took long enough for women to be seen as equal enough to vote etc. ) I didn't breast feed my first child due to embarrassment i felt because of stupid people like Adam, but next time im joining the sister hood! Especially now i know how much it will annoy certain small-minded people.”

“"My wife is the one who made the decision to no longer breastfeed our child, and more power to her for making that choice and not kow-towing to the pressure lots of people put ehr under"

Adam, surely if your daughter is Lactose intolerant then it wasn't a difficult decision for your wife to stop breastfeeding? Shame on whoever it was who put pressure on her to continue to do something which was potentially harmful to your daughter. How long did this pressure go on for and were you angry at people going against medical advice and trying to make your wife continue. Or perhaps you are stretching the truth to fit your own agenda?”

“Forgot to say, I am going in a minute ;-) I don't think breastfeeder was being political just being supportive to those that do feed.”

“I have got to go now but it has been interesting reading peoples points of view, I know that there are some mums who do it for political reasons and sometimes that can be a backward step for those who have a genuine need to feed and if in public so be it, I know I use to be really embarrassed even though I was very discreet, I bought all the specific tops to feed etc, looking back now I should have been more confident, after all I was only feeding my very hungry daughter, by the only means I could and doing the best by her. I feel it is a shame as some views, possibly being read now by a pregnant woman considering breasfeeding, will put some less confident woman as I was, off feeding their baby. Lesley, I think you have a sense of human hon. x”

“So if you are simply doing what is best for your child, why are you so against other parents doing what's best for theirs? You honestly think mums should refused to feed in public because it upsets you????

I think Mel has made a very good point Adam. You would be disgusted if someone vomited or suggested vomiting on your daughters milk.”

“You know what would make breast feeding acceptable? If I could join in and one of the breasts had a nice lager shandy in it....”
