Riders complete three laps of the course with up to 18 horses lining up along side each other per race.

The event was first held on the course in 2009 and has since become a popular date in the point-to-point racing calendar, which features around 200 meetings in the UK between November and June.

Burton Point-to-point Secretary, Gill Park said: "The event is just like a normal horse race meeting, you can bet, there is hot food and drink, a licensed bar and some well known amateur jockeys.

"It is very much a family event and a good spectator sport. You can go right up to the rails close to the jump which you can't do on a national hunt course.

"Watching riders and horses hurtle over the fences is very exciting."

Race cards are supplied with live commentary for each race and a big screen to see the action all the way around the course.

Prizes which are sponsored by local businesses range from £150 to £200 for race winners.

No booking is required for spectators and entry costs £5 per car and £5 per person with children under 12 free. Entrance is cash only.

The event opens from 11am with the last race at 3:30pm with entry via gate six at the Lincolnshire Showground.
