Should Billy Jackson win the Welsh International Open on Friday, it will cap off a hectic week for the former world champion.

The Lincoln bowler saw off the challenge of America's Phillip Dunn on Saturday and faces Ireland's Jonathan Ross in the second round tomorrow.

Before that game though, Jackson, a returns officer for Siemens, will have a day at work today before travelling back down to Wales tonight ahead of a 10am match tomorrow

His schedule will become even more hectic should he beat Ross.

"It's not a bad time to be playing as I get half an hour's practice prior to the game," said Jackson.

"After that, it will be straight back to Lincoln and a doubles game with Danny Brown in the evening, work on Wednesday and hopefully back down to Wales on Thursday."

Jackson comfortably defeated Dunn, 11-2, 9-4, and was buoyed yesterday by the shock exits of new world champion Greg Harlow and doubles partner David Gourlay from the tournament.

"I played much better than I did at the World Championships and it was nice to go into the game with no pressure," said Jackson.

"There have been a couple of shocks in the tournament already including the new world champion (Greg Harlow) going out so that could benefit me.

"There's definitely pressure as world champion because everyone wants to beat you.

"Greg (Harlow) lost to Zvika Hadar, of Israel, who is a decent player, but I don't think Israel has ever won a game at a ranking tournament."

Jackson sits a provisional sixth in the world rankings and a top-eight finish will see him qualify for a match play tournament in Sheffield later on in the year as well as the mixed pairs at next year's World Championships.

His opponent, Ross, defeated number eight seed Andy Thomson to get to round two and Jackson does not know what to expect from the Irishman.

"Jonathan is very unpredictable and you don't know what is coming with him," said Jackson.

"I watched his game on Saturday and some of his shot selections were questionable but then on some of the other ends he was brilliant."

Jackson will face one of two Scottish players, Alex Marshall or Darren Burnett, on Thursday, if he gets past Ross.
