COMPETITION: Win three pairs of tickets to Mystery Jets at Lincoln's Engine Shed
Rewind to 2006. The Long Blondes were looking for someone to drive them home, Franz Ferdinand had fallen and Arctic Monkeys were making people look absolutely ridiculous on the dancefloor with their overhyped, ripped-off indie pop.
Considering that Britain's indie rock scene had boomed just a couple of years earlier, by this time it was growing stagnant, with disappointing second album after disappointing second album, lapped up by the NME and Radio 1 mainstream masses.
And that's where Mystery Jets came in. Their debut album Making Dens was a breath of fresh air; one part cosmic prog rock, one part eccentric power pop, and meeting in the middle where Pink Floyd left off and British Sea Power began.
Commercially, it was disappointing. It barely scraped into the top 40 and failed to produce a top 20 single. But unlike every other indie band around at the time, that didn't matter to Mystery Jets.

What mattered was that the band had laid the foundations for a cult following, the likes of which hadn't been seen since, say, the Manic Street Preachers. It was this following that would spur them on to produce three further, wildly different and progressive albums, headline festivals and play to fans all across the globe.
Mystery Jets are a completely different animal than they were six years ago, with an arsenal packed with much-loved dancefloor fillers, from You Can't Fool Me Dennis to Young Love, from Half In Love With Elizabeth to Zoo Time, from the monster Two Doors Down to the jaunty, feel-good new single Greatest Hits.
That's why the Mystery Jets gig at Lincon's Engine Shed on Saturday, November 3, is going to be one of the must-see gigs of the year.
The Eel Pie band of misfits are playing in support of their spectacular new album Radlands, with tickets still on sale now priced £14 plus booking fee.
But in anticipation of the new tour, the Echo has teamed up with the Engine Shed to give away three pairs of tickets.
