They seized 13 mature plants from an upstairs bedroom in March last year and a further 62 juvenile plants in a barn next to the house.

The electricity to the house and barn had been bypassed to disguise the operation.

Douglas admitted growing cannabis at Lincoln Crown court. He appeared alongside his son Brock Eddowes, 23, who admitted supplying a small amount of cannabis grown by his father to "one or two friends."

Analysis of text messages showed Douglas had around ten regular customers including one of his son's friends, the court was told.

Andrew Scott, prosecuting, said it was estimated that Douglas usually sold the cannabis for £180 an ounce, giving it a potential street value of £85,000.

Douglas had used a growing tent, silver foil and hydroponic lights to grow the cannabis plants found in the upstairs bedroom of his home. A set of digital scales, bags of nutrients and drying cannabis flower tops were found elsewhere in the home.

Jeremy Janes, in mitigation, said Douglas took full blame for the operation and was now in poor health due to his longstanding cannabis habit.

Douglas, of Glenside, Northlands Road, Glentworth was jailed for three years and four months. Eddowes, of the same address, was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid community work

    “Cut off the head and three will grow back. The police seriously need to stop wasting their time busting weed dealers. Lincolnshire is full of heroin, meth and many other class A's. Yet you only ever hear of them busting cannabis growers.

    Think about it this way;

    Walk down a dark alley at night and there's a group of guys drinking: probably won't end well.
    Walk down a dark alley at night and there's a group of guys shooting up: probably won't end well.
    Walk down a dark alley at night and there's a group of guys smoking a joint each: Too busy eating Doritos and making jokes. More likely to offer you snacks than hurt you.”
