A NEW Archdeacon of Lincoln has been appointed after the retirement of the Venerable Arthur Hawes.

The Bishop of Lincoln Dr John Saxbee has appointed the Reverend Canon Timothy Barker.

Canon Barker has been Vicar of Spalding since 1998 and is District Dean for the Elloe Deaneries.

He was installed as a Canon of Lincoln Cathedral in 2003 and served on the Cathedral Chapter for several years.

Canon Barker said: "I was surprised and delighted when Bishop John invited me to be the next Archdeacon of Lincoln.

"Lincolnshire people and places are dear to my heart and it is a privilege to have been called to serve them in this way."

The Bishop of Lincoln, The Right Reverend John Saxbee, said: "Tim has 10 years of distinguished ministry in the Diocese to build upon as he takes on this new role. I look forward very much indeed to working with Tim."

Canon Barker take up his new role in September.
