“"As for "the issue" I would say not leaving your key in the car is fairly central"
I hope you dont lose your house keys in the snow as according to you that will give someone the right to steal everything you own.”

“Itis an offence to leave a motor vehicle with the engine running and no one in the driving seat to control it, you will also find if stolen your insurers can refuse to pay up. About 45 years ago i was warned by a police officer as I pulled up in front of a shop got out of car to check an item in window and felt a tap on my shoulder, the said it is an offence, before I could say but, he suggested I get into my car and go on my way before he booked me.
As far as I am aware it only applies to car on the road or public place not in your driveway but if stolen with keys in insurers may not payout if stolen. There are a mass of motoring offences that were enforced years ago but I don't think many of the police today are aware of them, it may be a good thing or they would run out of tickets.”

“"my point is that the poster in question only ever comments on others postings and seemingly always in a negative way" and?
I don't remember saying which was the bigger crime, but cheers for putting words in my mouth. As for "the issue" I would say not leaving your key in the car is fairly central.”

“"On the subject of the report, rather than the grammar, isn't it an offence to leave your car running with the keys in while you are not watching the car?"
Not sure but this may not apply on private property.”

“How many times do people have to be told not to do this! Whilst I'm not condoning this whatsoever, it seems like people just try to not listen to warnings given by the police and adopt a 'it'll never happen to me' attitude. No sympathy whatsoever.”

“Eatmygoal, my point is that the poster in question only ever comments on others postings and seemingly always in a negative way.
Well if your interested, your comment as to the legality of leaving a car running whilst unattended pales into insignificance when compared to the car thief who then drove it without insurance from Cherry Willingham to the A1, before crashing it at the junction of Rutland Road. This is surely the issue, or are you saying that the car thief was created by the owner of the car merely because they chose to leave their property unattended?”
