Mustapha Carayol admits to being rubbish against Chesterfield and vows to improve
MUSTAPHA CARAYOL has urged Lincoln City to break free from their defensive shackles and finally spark their stuttering season into life.
The winger is desperate to ignite the club's disappointing opening to the campaign which has left them with just one win from their opening seven league and cup games.

Mustapha Carayol.
Lincoln have only scored four goals during that time and fans have grown increasingly concerned about the lack of goal threat.
But Carayol believes the Imps can ease those fears if they decide to go for the jugular starting with Saturday's game against Barnet.
"The way we played against Chesterfield was too deep and when we did want to go forward there were not enough numbers up front," he said.
"We simply have too many attack-minded players for us to sit in and defend for the whole game especially when we are away from home.
"But we have a big game against Barnet this weekend when we have a chance to put that result behind us.
"It's a period when we play teams who are in and around us and we have to start by going out on Saturday and scoring goals.
"We have to play with confidence on Saturday because we have the players who can score goals as long as we create the chances."
Carayol only returned to the starting line-up at the weekend after three weeks out of action with an ankle injury sustained in the 2-0 defeat against Torquay.
The 22-year-old, who was hugely impressive in pre-season, said he was glad to make a long-awaited return against the Spireites.
But he is hoping to rectify a below-par display at the B2Net by improving against the Bees.
"Individually everyone was disappointed and I went in and apologised to the rest of the boys because I felt I was the worst player on the pitch," he said.
"I have to make sure I am right next week and I know everyone is down, but we have to lift ourselves.
"I always have high expectations of myself and if I am playing rubbish I do not need anybody to tell me.
"I felt I lost the ball too much, but hopefully the rest of the boys and I can put it right this weekend."
Should Carayol start the game on Saturday he is likely to return to the wing, with Albert Jarrett set to return from international duty.
Jarrett has thrived in a role behind the frontman and while he was away with Sierra Leone, his responsibility was handed to Carayol.
But he felt it did not work out as well it could have.
"My role was different, but I was confident that I could do a job," he said.
"I tried my best, but my game is to attack and I didn't get much joy."

“I hadn't expected such a poor start from City this season and from the limited number of posts on this site these days, perhaps signifies the lack of interest? Hopefully Boston will get promoted and we will all soon be playing the local derbies again either in the BSP or League 2!”

“I think from what is seen and the comments made by Carayol today shows one thing...... Sutton is very worried about how defensive we are and is throwing everything we have got into defence on the hope that maybe Hutchinson will single handedly produce the goods up front!
Granted, we have been lacking a player or two that match, but still.... the defence we have got should be strong enough to cope with most situations and we should only be tracking back to offer them support, not to have the entire midfield playing a semi-defender role.
Sutton needs to do whatever he can do to find a couple of excellent defenders that have confidence, talent and can more importantly free up the ball for the midfield and attack to flow to their natural positions!”

“I didn't think he looked fit. Normally Jarrett will sit behind and Carayol will play out wide where he looks a threat. I suspect a loanee will join to finish the three pronged 'midfield' and leave Hughton / Facey on the bench.”
