Carre's Grammar School pupils in bid to raise £7,000 for expedition in Ecuador
TWO pupils from Carre's Grammar School are attempting to raise £7,000 to enable them to participate in an expedition to Ecuador in 2014.
Nick Hill and Rowan Hix-Dunn, both in year 11, hope to go on the 18-day expedition which will involve a trek through the Andes via the Condor trek to Mount Cotopaxi and interaction with an Amazonian tribe in the region of Tena.
During their visit to Tena they will be working on a humanitarian project called Yanapuma NAPO, which will enable them to learn about the indigenous culture and give something back to the local community.
The lads held a fund-raising event at Ruskington Co-Op earlier this month and were amazed at the success.

Rowan said: "I was totally dumbfounded when one anonymous gentleman just gave me seventy pounds. He was really keen on what we were trying to achieve and it was all so unexpected. We would just like to say to him how incredibly grateful we are for his outstanding generosity."
Nick added: "I was amazed just how incredibly generous the people of Ruskington were in helping us with our fund raising efforts."
The event was a huge success and Nick and Rowan added £243 to the fund, called ECxperience, that they have set up together.
The pair have also taken part in a half marathon and have organised many other events which will take place in the coming months. Details can be found on their Facebook page www.facebook.com/?!/ECxperience
The next event is a table top sale on March 9 at Heckington Village Hall from 10am to 1pm. Tables cost £5 and bookings can be on 01529 488508 or at 07715 575198
