A courthouse which has been empty for five years could be converted to a KFC drive-through.

Gainsborough's former magistrates court building has remained derelict since it closed down in 2007, when all its business was moved to Lincoln.

Now, KFC is bidding to add to its 800 fast food outlets by converting the Roseway building into a franchise which would create up to 40 new jobs in the town centre.

A planning application has been submitted to West Lindsey District Council.

A KFC franchise spokesman said: "Although we do not know when work will go ahead if consent is approved, if the application is successful we'll create up to 40 jobs in the local community. The aim would be to open by the middle of next year."
