Child injured after train and car collide at Misson Springs, near Gainsborough

A child has been airlifted to hospital after a train crashed into a car this afternoon at Misson Springs near Gainsborough.

British Transport Police (BTP) said the incident was reported at 12.35pm.

A BTP spokesman said: BTP officers were called to the rail line at Beech Hill crossing, Springs Road, Mission Springs, Nottinghamshire, following a report of a train striking a car.

"The incident was reported to BTP at 12.35pm. Emergency services are on scene and handling the incident.

"The car contained two occupants, a woman and a child. The child sustained serious injuries and has been airlifted to hospital in Sheffield.

"The driver, a woman, received minor injuries and has been taken to hospital in Doncaster.

"The train, a Lincoln to Doncaster service, is damaged but has remained upright and on the tracks. Passengers have been removed from the train and there are no reports of injuries at this time.

"Officers are working to establish more specifics about the incident about the incident and will provide updates as soon as any further information is available."

A woman has been taken to hospital in Doncaster with minor injuries.
