Chris Sutton urges Lincoln City to find defensive resolve

Chris Sutton has demanded Lincoln City go back to being "mean and stingy" if they are to steer their survival bid back on track.

The Imps boss watched his side slip to their third successive defeat at the weekend losing 2-1 at Chesterfield to leave him clamouring for a watertight backline.

Again, Lincoln paid the price for a poor start, falling behind to Dominic Green's howitzer before Barry Conlon put them further in front just after half-time.

Moses Swaibu's deft lob, his first goal for the club, pulled City back into the game, but Sutton admitted his side had given themselves too much to do.

"You can't give teams a two-goal start," he said. "Although our performance was much better than Tuesday night, when we were bitterly disappointing, we actually did okay at Chesterfield.

"But we have to go back to being mean and stingy and try to keep clean sheets. The second goal killed us really, and it came from the third phase of a corner.

"That has been a particular problem for us. Football is all about small details and defending set-pieces is a massive part of the game.

"We don't score from many and we concede too many. I'm afraid it's one of those things where people want to go and head it or they don't.

"Some people react quicker than others and at the moment we simply aren't reacting."

“Observer, Being a season ticket holder and having the ability to read the Echo, I was aware that Janos had left. When he left for Luton - scored on his debut - there were posts on her about how he should still be playing because he was committed. (Scarey how short a memory some people have!) The point I was making, which was, I think, quite clear, was that people seem to think being committed should get you a place in the team.”

“Once again there is an air of despondancy around, fueled once again by the same old rumour mongerers! Wake up and smell the coffee! Rome wasn't built in a day. We have to get behind Sutton and Pearce, or otherwise he may think we aren't worth the effort, and walk, and how that would please some people. Get behind his decisions, or get out yourselves!”

“Yes, and Kevin Phillips scored twice for Birmingham. It's a shame we didn't sign him when he was over in the transfer window.

    Who's rumour was that?

    Up the Imps”

“Noticed a mr mcalls left BCFC and Mike Newalls still out of work and how about Alan Buckley or Russel Slade. Surely its better to try a new young manager remember Graham Taylor and Colin Murphy. It does work not all the time granted but give the bloke a chance.”
