City gets spring clean in the name of art
Shoppers, bollards and pavements in Lincoln have been given a spring clean in the name of art.
University of Lincoln graduate and artist Amelia Beavis-Harrison used interactive works including 1940s inspired mime artists, known as the Shrug Ladies, in an attempt to find out what city residents want from art.

The Shrug Ladies.
The 23-year-old will use feedback from Saturday's research experiment in the High Street to curate a festival later this year, currently named A Working Title, as part of her aim to further broaden Lincoln's cultural palette.
Miss Beavis-Harrison asked for ideas to be submitted for the test event and selected three Nottingham-based artists.
Nottingham Trent University fine art student Leila Al-Yousuf, 21, created shapes with black sand carefully placed on the Lincoln pavement near High Bridge, while Charlotte Pratley used gold leaves to slowly transform and liven up a black bollard.
Street art troupe the Shrug Ladies performed a spring-themed piece, which included dusting down passers-by and inviting people to write down their favourite things about the season.
Even a passing police van was incorporated into the act, with one of the ladies striking a fearful pose and asking on her chalk board: "Am I under arrest?"
Miss Beavis-Harrison said: "It's about trying to change the perception of art and open it up. People may enjoy the Shrug Ladies and not be aware that it's art."

“Some interesting opinions...a pity a lot are misinformed. As for Jim's comment, its great we have nothing better to do - this is our chosen career and could not wish to fill our time with anything more productive or enlightening!
If you'd like to know more on the reasons behind this project, here is some further reading -

With regards to John's comment, please note the source of funding is not taxpayers' as is so often mistakenly thought.”
