Community groups benefit from councillor's grants
A NUMBER of grants have been made to local groups by East Lindsey district councillors.
The money forms part of the councillors community initiative scheme which awards each councillor £2,000 to help support local projects and groups in their local area.
In Sutton on Sea, Cllr David Andrews has allocated £200 towards the cost of electrical rewiring at the Meridale Youth Community Centre and in Mablethorpe Cllr Graham Gooding has given £200 to Scallywags Lincs to provide swimming lessons during the school holidays.
Cllr Julia Pears has give £500 to East Keal Parish Council towards the cost of providing new notice boards and Cllr Jim Swanson has given £150 as a contribution towards purchasing camping equipment and craft materials in 2010 for 1st Spilsby Guides.
A total of £909.12 has been given to Skegness Junior School by Cllr Mark Anderson as a contribution towards a cultural visit for pupils. Year 6 pupils from the school paid a visit to the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham. £80 of the contribution will be used to purchase shin pads for pupils whose parents are unable to cover the costs.
Finally Cllr Kevin Smith has given £250 to Friskney Beavers (Scouting Association) for adult training and an annual outing for the group.
