Complaints over 'rotten corpses' smell in Lincoln and North Hykeham
Baffled councillors will be meeting next week to discuss a pungent smell which is sweeping across parts of Lincolnshire.
The odour has been lingering around the Hykeham and Brant Road area for almost two weeks – and the authorities have had an "enormous number" of complaints.

Now, in an unusual move, North Hykeham Town Council will discuss the matter at a meeting on Wednesday, September 26.
Peter Cole, of South Hykeham, said: "It smells like rotting corpses.

"I first noticed it around ten days ago and it's not getting better.
"We're quite used to things being dumped on fields but those smells go away fairly quickly.
"This seems to be particularly pungent."
Wallace Lee, chairman of the town council's environment committee, said: "One person said it smells like chicken manure and other people have said it smells like sewage.
"The Environment Agency and council have had an enormous number of complaints.
"They are working hard to find the source but can't identify it."
Mr Lee said many people accepted that the town could be exposed to smells from farms and fields.
However, he explained the current odour was worse than normal.

“This is clearly a Government plan to balance out the stench from the tip on Station Road. I cannot believe anyone in North Hykeham still has a sense of smell.”

“InsideStory - I passed through Hykeham earlier today and didn't notice anybody stuffing corpses up their back alleys.
Is there something you know that the rest of us should be aware of?”
