A PILOT project which hands out condoms and pregnancy tests to schoolchildren from aged 13, could be extended to other county secondary schools.

Lincoln Christ's Hospital School launched the pilot project in 2007 to reduce the county's teenage pregnancy rate.

And the county council's Tackling Teenage Pregnancy team is now considering extending the programme.

Rob Mayall, council assistant director of children's services, said: "The pilot project at Christ's Hospital School offers a full school health clinic led by a professional nurse, part of which involves advice to young people about sex and relationships.

"While condoms and pregnancy tests are available to children over 13, the emphasis is very much on information and advice on delaying any sexual activity at a young age.

"Elements of this service are provided in other schools and they may be extended to others. "
