BRAVE men from Coningsby were waxed bare of their hair all in the name of charity.

Sixteen legs and a chest helped to raise more than £3,000 for two charities that were chosen by local woman Andrea Dolby who has been diagnosed with cancer for a second time.

Nine men were put through their paces at Hair Razor salon including Andrea's sons Ben, Carl and Lee.

Owner Fiona Manning said: "The evening was organised to raise money for St Barnabas Hospice in Boston and for an AED Defibrillator as part of the New Coningsby Surgery Equipment Fund.

"These were two charities identified by Andrea Dolby as being close to her heart.

"Andrea is a client and friend of the salon as well as being a long established, well respected figure within the local area who has been sadly diagnosed with cancer for a second time and keeps undergoing various treatments."

Raffle tickets were selling throughout the night which alone raised £866 towards the total.

The star prize was a makeover for a couple in the salon, followed by a three-course meal at The Tattershall Park Country Pub and Kitchen with return travel by Haltham Taxis.

Fiona added: "The star event was undoubtedly the waxing with Lee Dolby, Shaun Pettigrew, John Hargreaves, Ben Dolby, Tyler Parkhouse, Alastair Robinson, Ben Hunt, Carl Dolby and Shaun Harvey undergoing pain for the gratification of their audience.

"Their pain was not in vain though as Lee Dolby and Shaun Pettigrew between them raised over £1,000 through online donations.

"There was also the occasional guest that donated extra to have the satisfaction of pulling a waxing strip off the victims to inflict more pain to their suffering bodies."

Once all pledges are collected the event is expected to have raised more than £3,000.
