TWO consultation documents on proposals to replace St Clement's College with a new Academy have been made available to the public.

The documents set out plans to close the existing college on August 31 2010 and reopen it on September 1 as a new Academy sponsored by the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust.

The first consultation paper has been put together by Lincolnshire County Council who are looking into views on closing the existing College and the second has been compiled by the Trust itself about the Academy which is proposed to replace it.

Although at first the Academy would open in the existing College buildings, the Trust would secure a £21 million investment to provide new or refurbished buildings on the site by September 2013.

There would be provision for 1340 students aged between 11 and 19, offering a full curriculum including academic GCSEs and A Levels plus vocational courses at Level 2 and Level 3. There will be no selection by ability for places.

A new uniform for students would be introduced from September 2010 in consultation with staff and parents which will be purchased by the Academy to ensure no financial hardship for parents

In the consultation brochure chairman of the Trust David Shelton said: "By sponsoring an Academy in Skegness, our ambition is to ensure that all young adults who leave the Academy do so with the educational qualifications and personal skills that help them make the right choices about their future and to succeed in adult life.

"This is a very exciting proposal for Skegness and a unique opportunity to provide a first-class education and excellent facilities for all our students.

A consultation meeting for parents, staff, governors and members of the community is being held at St Clement's College on Thursday December 3 at 7pm.

There will be a short presentation from chief executive of the Trust Barry Day, and representatives from Lincolnshire County Council with the opportunity for questions to be asked.

The consultation documents can be viewed online at www.skegnessacademy.org and www.lincolnshire.gov.uk/provisionplanning

Both consultations will end on December 18 2009.
