Consultation welcomed in bid to improve safety of mobility vehicle users
A CONSULTATION into changes to the regulation of mobility scooters has been welcomed by local campaigners.
The document published by the Department of Transport puts forward suggestions including requiring users to pass a "fitness to drive" test before they take to the streets together with requiring compulsory third party insurance and vehicle registration.
The changes will aim to reduce accidents and will be considered during a three-month consultation period.
Over the past few years both Skegness Senior's Forum and the local Neighbourhood Policing Team have supported a number of events aimed at offering advice to scooter users, many of who have had little or no training on how to operate the machines.
