Convicted rapist jailed after touching and spying on children in Lincolnshire

A CONVICTED rapist from the Sleaford area has been jailed for three-and-half-years after he admitted sexually touching three girls.

Wayne Richardson, 54, was also disqualified from working with children and ordered to register as a sex offender for life.

Richardson, who was living in the Sleaford area, admitted two charges of sexual assault and two charges of sexual activity. He also pleaded guilty to two charges of voyeurism after "spying" on two of the children.

The offences began in January 2011 and continued until his activities were exposed in March this year, Lincoln Crown Court heard.

Each of three girls, who can not be named for legal reasons, were "profoundly affected" by his behaviour, the court was told.

When Richardson was asked to explain his offending during police questioning he replied: "I've no idea. There must be something wrong with me."

The court heard Richardson was sentenced to six months detention in 1977 after he was convicted of a rape charge in West Yorkshire.

Joanna Stables, mitigating, told the court Richardson had managed to stay out of trouble for more than 30 years since the offence which occured when he was just 19-years-old.

Miss Stables said: "He is now a committed family man who has raised two adult children of his own."

Miss Stables added that Richardson's guilty pleas had spared his victims the task of giving evidence in court.

Passing sentence Judge Michael Heath told Richardson: "There were three victims of what you did."

She said: "You have a previous conviction in 1977, many years ago, for rape, for which you were given six months detention. There have been no convictions since that date."

Richardson, now of no fixed address, was also made the subject of a sexual offences prevention order which bans him from having any unsupervised contact with girls under-16.
