NEWLY-published accounts have revealed the salaries of the country's council chiefs.

And Lincolnshire County Council's chief executive Tony McArdle earned £173,226, plus £32,833 in pension contributions, for 2009/10.

The GMB union has collated the data, which shows 129 council chief executives in England were paid more than £150,000.

The highest paid was Cumbria County Council chief executive Peter Stybelski, who earned £464,114. But taken into account was the £351,169 he received in pension contributions.

Andy Worth, GMB regional secretary, said: "This is at a time when councils say they are hard up and are slashing jobs and services while telling staff to put up with a pay freeze."

“Ben and Northern Outsider, please stop your petty, off-topic bickering as it ruins this forum for other people who actually want to make valid points. I will ask the moderation team to ban you if it continues. Thank you.”

“It seems the argrument turned into a slanging match forgetting the original story. I don't propose to know who is right or wrong but around 50% of Lincolnshire residents don't have a right to complain at all due to the fact they couldn't be bothered to vote. Yes it is the councillors vote in the salaries but you voted in the councillors at least the ones who made the effort. Have you let your councillor know how you feel about things? Do you even know who your councillor is? Unless you do, you can't blame them either.
Two saying comes to mind; United we stand divided we fall and Criying over spilt milk.”

“Mick I dont think anyone would dispute that you get monkeys if you pay peanuts but its just with many cuts in the public sector its just slightly unfair. And by the way they are some very expensive peanuts.”
