A PRIVATE council meeting will be held to select which company will build a £145 million energy-from-waste facility in North Hykeham.

The project is the biggest in Lincolnshire County Council's history and an announcement of the preferred contractor is expected on October 20.

Shanks Waste Solutions/ Wheelabrator Technologies Inc and Waste Recycling Group are the two companies in contention to build the incinerator.

A special meeting of the authority's Conservative executive will take place to make the decision.

But council officials say this will take place in private as commercially sensitive information will need to be discussed.

“A Conservative authority meeting in private to decide which of their financial backers gets a £145 million contract? Thank goodness for local accountability and open governance.”
