Council engineers join institution
TWO local engineers have been awarded membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE).
Ian Booth and Melanie Ewing, who both work for Lincolnshire County Council, were awarded the membership for their work within civil engineering.
After meeting all the requirements of the ICE's chartered professional review, Mr Booth, of Skellingthorpe, can now add the letters MICE to the end of his name and adopt the institution's own protected title of chartered civil engineer.
Ms Ewing, a senior technician from Welton-le-Wold near Louth, has qualified as an incorporated engineer after passing the member professional review.
An admission ceremony took place at the ICE headquarters in Westminster, London, which saw Mr Booth presented with a certificate by ICE president, Professor Paul Jowitt.
Malcolm Jackson, ICE East Midlands regional director, said: "Civil engineer- ing is an important discipline at the heart of society.
"It is about creating, improving and protecting the infrastructure we all depend on in our day-to-day lives – such as bridges, roads and railways.
"We welcome Ian and Melanie into the ICE."
