Cost-cutting councillors could close 14 offices across the county in an effort to save £3 million per year.

Leases on around 1/7 of the buildings Lincolnshire County Council rents will run out within the next three years.

And local politicians from all parties say that tough decisions may have to be taken on their future as part of attempts to slash £80 million a year from authority budgets.

County council Liberal Democrat leader Councillor John Marriott said: "We face some very tough decisions.

"If the buildings are surplus to requirement and not efficient, providing the work can be done elsewhere, then I think it's a sensible thing to do.

"I would rather they save money there than on jobs."

The move comes on the back of plans to offload five Lincolnshire County Council owned properties in an effort to raise £1.65 million, with two at 156 Trinity Street in Gainsborough and The Priory in Grantham now under offer.

Trinity Street, which has a price tag of £300,000 is currently home to district social services staff.

But they will be moved to West Lindsey District Council's Marshall's Yard base.

Jim Hogg, head of strategic asset management at the county council said: "We are unable to give further details of the 14 properties that may be up for renewal in the future, as this is commercially sensitive information that could prejudice any future negations for both Lincolnshire County Council and the property owners.

"The properties in Gainsborough and Grantham were put on the market and we have now accepted offers for both of them."
