£75m hospital cutbacks could lead to job losses
Massive £75 million cuts are to be imposed on Lincolnshire's hospitals in a move that could see 300 jobs axed.
The dramatic cuts will force health bosses to slash hundreds of temporary posts over the next five years in a desperate bid to chop the county's £373m hospital budget.
-

Recruitment freezes as well as not replacing those who leave the service will account for the cuts, and the hospitals says no staff will be made redundant.
But the Department of Health is forcing all health trusts to make huge savings as government debt rockets and the economy slumps.
Health chiefs say that they have no intention of cutting health services.
Every area of what happens at Lincoln County Hospital and the three other hospitals in the county will be probed to find efficiency savings.
Major changes to the way the health service runs in the county will also be needed.
But Gary Walker, chief executive of the United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust, admitted that difficult decisions would have to be made.
"We have made the easy savings," he said.
"Now we are into at least two years of challenging savings that will affect the way most people work."

“Why stop there angry tax payer? STOP treating people who put themselves in danger by driving cars and crossing roads! STOP treating people who were born into families with high cancer rates and who haven't committed suicide before needing expensive cancer drugs! STOP NHS dentists for everyone who eats anything with sugar in it! Oh, wait, the government's way ahead of me on that last one :-D”

“Ruddy hell Angry, that would cost a lot to provide Germans and French with the same standard of care :) Also check your figures, currently 80% of costs and two thirds of activity in the NHS is to provide care for the one third of the population with the highest need, the 15 million with long term conditions. All though I wouldn't want to suggest you are using foreigners as a scape goat, they account for a very very small amount of the total NHS spend, which the ones over here more than cover with their National Insurance contributions. It is time for sensible discussion on private care for some, centralisation of service where possible etc with propper medical based fact. For example, there are moves to shut some AEs which has been driven by a clinician. People get up in arms about it being a danger to their health when medical fact shows that having some centralised in one place would vastly improve the patients chances of survival because there is little good getting to an AE that can't deal with your problem but only takes 5 mins to get to.”

“When will we get a government with some b****s.STOP letting any Tom,Dick or Harry come to the UK to use our NHS,STOP letting people who have no desire to look after themselves receive treatment on the NHS(ie Obesity,Drug Addiction,Alcoholism)Make people pay for cosmetic surgery if its only out of vanity. Only give the foreigners the equivelant treatment to what they'd receive in their country(EU).And lastly,if you haven't paid in to the NHS,you don't get anything out, simple.”

“So let me get this right , staff leave and they are not replacing and the wards are even more shortstaffed.
Exisitng staff struggle in the heat and continued targets, bed moves etc etc moral continues to dwindle and staff leave ahhh!
therefore they have saved even more money and continue to push the staff even further.
When trying to find staff to cover told sorry cant get anyone you will have to manage ! really safe but it does save the trust money in recruiting.”

“The amount spent on the NHS is completely unsustainable - over £100 billion was spent in 07/08, compared to £44.5 billion 10 years previously. We need to prepare ourselves for a lot more similar cuts in spending and get used to a 'small' NHS, with those that can afford to pay for treatment doing so and only those in need receiving completely free treatment”

“Lol, you could then argue that for every MP sticking two fingers up to their electorate because it is across England. There are no actual job losses so bit misleading, and don't people complain on here, wrongly, that their are too many managers etc, surely this should make them happy? The NHS saved over £1 billion last year with Care Quality Commission saying that the quality of health care has gone up. You certainly won't see that story anywhere. Until people in the county accept that they need to travel for health care due to the geography of where they live, ULHT will always struggle.”

“Not surprising that our hospitals are now going to have to make savings.
Why does Lincolnshire have 3 Primary Care Trusts though. Get rid of two of them. That must be a savings which could be put to save Doctors and Nurses jobs”
