British National Party membership in an area of Lincolnshire is one of the highest in England, according to a newly published list.

Figures show that the Louth and Horncastle area has the fourth highest level of BNP support in England and Wales.

The statistics show that there has been a 26 per cent rise in support for the party since the end of 2007.

The BNP – whose leader Nick Griffin recently called for boats carrying illegal immigrants into Europe to be sunk – is remaining tight-lipped.

But politicians and campaigners from across the political spectrum have expressed concern about the details revealed in a list in the Guardian newspaper yesterday.

Jean Johnson, a Conservative county councillor in the Louth area, said many people in her area would be concerned.

"It does surprise me, but I have not encountered any of them," she said.

"With some of the things they say, maybe some others think that way, but I don't believe that as a county we would want to have some of the things they say we want.

"It's what a lot of people fought against in the war."

The figures showed that one in 200 party members UK-wide lived in the parliamentary constituency of Louth and Horncastle.

While this is a fairly small number – 58 people as of April this year, according to the list – political opponents say they are not remaining complacent about the issue.

BNP Leader Nick Griffin became one of two party members to claim a seat in this year's European parliamentary elections.

Soon afterwards in Lincoln, an anti-BNP rally ended in a tense stand-off between protesters and supporters of the far right organisation.

The BNP declined to comment.

“Yeah, the average person as long as you are a Cambridge Graduate mulit millionaire like him. About as much one of us on that basis as Cameron.”

“It's amazing the number of BNP supporters who try to claim they are not racist. It's ridiculous, if you support them then at least have the courage of your convictions. Anything less is pathetic.
They are a disgusting bunch of Nazi apologists. It makes my skin crawl every time Griffin claims to speak for 'the average Briton'.”

“Thankyou, BNP supporters, for confirming everything I've ever suspected about you and your IQ levels.”

“seeing as you and me now seem to be agreeing on something j i think its time to call it quits,i think we should both agree to disagree what do you think.
oh and yes you do still have to include your phone number so that they can ring you back and interrogate you further on your political beliefs.”

“On that I do agree with you, not been on it in a long time but when I used to do it you had to put in your phone number.”

“just as a matter of interest have you seen on the bbc question time website the form you have to fill in to get on the show.
talk about being nosey,no wonder they can choose there biased audiences so well.its a wonder they don't want to know what time you get up in the morning.”

“I am sure I could pick some up because usually on these matters you have said how abhorrent you find such views spouted by the BNP, but then only single out me and left their comments untouched. To be honest I am not really overly bothered if you single me out, in some ways it is a mark of respect whether you admit or not that you chose me and not others on both sides. Still I am glad you went in for trolling, removes you from that high horse from which you were striking down from about double standards.
To be honest I had sympathy for him on question time as it was a total farce of a show. Still it has generated interest in politics again, and most of the views I have seen are that the BNP should be kept out, so there goes getting in via voter apathy.”

“Aaaah, are you feeling a little victimised J? Bless. As it's my "usual stance", perhaps you'd like to give me some other examples of my singling you out? I won't hold my breath because it hasn't happened. Whereas a couple of days ago you openly admitted doing the same to me and other "little Englanders" as you called us, just for a little sport. I know it's petty and two wrongs don't make a right, but I just couldn't resist. Especially as you were being particularly hypocritical by correcting someone else's grasp of "the facts".”

    “J, Lincoln

no i didn't have to read about this guy i saw a clip of him on tv last night the news channels couldn't wait to show it.just shows how biased the news channels are.
and as for your remark about the dog,no it doesn't make it human but it would probably make its owners very rich.
and i see nasty nick is getting quite a lot of sympathy votes on the forums of news channels.
this must really upset people of your ilk.”

“If you give a dog a keyboard and it types does it make it human? An equally stupid question. Clearly you haven't read todays papers which state an Asian man asked the question about the South Pole. Here's one "Then a British Asian man from the audience delivers the killer line: ¿You¿d be surprised by how many people here would have a whip round to send you to the South Pole. It¿s a colourless landscape. And you would like it"”
