Crash man wins praise
ROAD crash survivor Stephen Goulden has won recognition for his road safety work in a national awards scheme.
Mr Goulden, from Bassingham, near Lincoln, had parts of his skull removed after his car was in collision with a school bus in 2005.
Since then he appeared in Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership's 2 Fast 2 Soon campaign – a roadshow which aims to teach safer driving to young drivers.
Mr Goulden reached the final three nominations in the Campaigner of the Year title in the brain injury charity Headway's annual awards 2008.
Teresa Philips, who campaigned to make seatbelt wearing compulsory in Jersey, was yesterday declared the category winner.
Mr Goulden previously told the Echo he could not recall much about the near head-on crash between his Volvo 440 and the bus on a bridge at Marston, near Grantham.
He blamed the speed he was driving at, saying it made it impossible for him to avoid the collision.
