Swine flu, flooding of the county's coastline and terrorist attacks were all planned for at a meeting of Lincolnshire's crisis committee.

The group, which is known as the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum, debated threats such as the swine flu outbreak and local risks such as coastal flooding.

Chief executives of all local authorities in the county as well as representatives from health authorities, Government agencies, voluntary organisations, utility companies and emergency services were present at the meeting held in the Petwood Hotel in Woodhall Spa.

Richard Crompton, who chaired the meeting yesterday, said he wanted to strengthen partnership work across the county to ensure an effective response to emergencies.

"As well as looking at and planning for current national challenges such as the recent swine flu outbreak, we also looked at specific local risks such as coastal inundation.

"We all share an evident determination to respond effectively, together, to major emergencies in Lincolnshire and to minimise the impact on people, property, and the environment."

LFS has been operating for the last five years in the county but has evolved recently to fit in with Ggovernment guidelines.

David Powell, head of emergency planning for the county council, said plans were in place to deal with severe weather conditions, emergencies at oil distribution centres and animal disease.

"We have a large number of specific plans," he said.

"The big ones at the moment are obviously swine flu and coastal flooding and we have launched a full strategy and business plan.

"We are as prepared as we should be at this stage."

“The Echo tries to scare the public with an irresponsible headline. Read further into the article and you find it is a regular meeting of a specific forum doing a regular review of their emergency plans. Not what you call a crisis meeting!”
