Cups produce several giant-killing results

There were some surprise results in the Sills and Betteridge Lincoln Sunday League this weekend, in particular in the cups where the favourites in both were knocked out.

One huge giant-killing act was Welton FC, from Division Six, edging past Harby, from Division Three, in the Fred Quibell Cup, 4-3. Goals from Kirt Hill (2) Jason Spencer and Tom Curtis gave the underdogs an unexpected victory.

FVA Jerusalem, flying high in Division Three, were well beaten by Division Four side Victory Athletic. Two goals from Dave Curtis led the way as Victory's fantastic form in the cups this season continues.

Division Six side Horse and Jockey enjoyed a superb 4-2 victory over Division Five high-flyers Lord Nelson Dunholme, while Metheringham 2nds found Plough Sturton too hot to handle as the Division Four side were comfortable 3-0 victors over their Division Three opponents.

There were victories for Dynamo Varsity, North Lindum Hawks and Lincoln Claytons.

Another big shock came in the Ron Eaglen Cup where two goals from Kallum Smith gave Ruston Sports a great 2-1 win against odds-on favourites and rivals, GE Rustons.

In the Premier League, second-placed FVA Jerusalem continued their fantastic run of form with a 6-0 win over Scothern.

New signings Billy Munro and Sam Allmond were among the goals as Welton S&SC beat Burtons FCW 5-2 and a seven-goal second-half display, led by Paul O'Rourke, saw FSC Victory thump Anglers FC Saxilby 9-1.

Two goals from Dean Szendrey capped a quality performance for Adelaide, who overcame Metheringham 4-0, and Hunters Leap defeated Gatehouse by the same score to stay fourth.

Shock results in Division One saw three of the top four sides fall to lowly opposition.

Veteren John Radley scored the winner for Crows Athletic in their 4-3 win over leaders Nettleham, while Waggon and Horses enjoyed a welcome 2-1 victory over South Clifton.

Two goals from Jay Barrett helped CW Golden Eagle to a 4-0 success at Bassingham.

Andy Eyre bagged five of St Helens' six goals in their 6-2 scoreline at Sporting Lincoln

Bailgate Athletic enhanced their title credentials with a great 3-2 win over leaders St Giles and Chris Hodgson's two goals helped Hykeham Plough overcome Horncastle Town 4-2.

Wheatsheaf Vulcan dented Sleaford Raiders' hopes with a 5-4 victory despite playing the last 35 minutes with 10 men.

Ivy Tavern continued their push for the Division Three title with a 4-1 victory over FCW Burtons Reserves, despite being reduced to 10 men on 15 minutes.

Kev Clark scored all five in North Scarle's 5-4 win over AFC West End.

Leaders Welton S&SC Reserves benefited from this weeks' results in Division Four as second-placed Heighington were beaten 5-3 by AFC Tennyson and Ben Morgan and Gavin Hutchinson gave Red Lion Dunston an unexpected 2-1 win over Newton United.

Railway Inn Thorpe pulled away at the top of Division Five as a brace apiece from Andy Anderson and Andy Wheatley helped them thump Evolution 7-1.

A Kieran Mullins hat-trick helped Peter De Wint beat BBH Athletic 8-2.

Despite scoring six, Bailgate Athletic Reserves were still defeated by Poachers as four from Scott Bennett and three by Mark Williamson helped them score 10.

Leaders Travellers Rest won 5-0 against AFC Harpars Reserves.
