DAVID HOLDSWORTH: Taylor's ability to adapt has been the key to his success

Jamie Taylor has been given a lot of plaudits this season for his goalscoring form, but I think sometimes it can be easy to overlook how big a challenge he has had to face.

Last summer I made it clear that Sam Smith, our top goalscorer from the previous season, was my main man.

I had it in my mind that I would be building the team around him, but of course, those plans had to be looked at again when he was sold.

I could not argue with the sale of Sam.

I wanted him to stay, but I also want this club to make ends meet and if it makes sense to get a good deal, well, that's what we have to do.

We are in that position and that is our lot at the moment.

So, with no Sam, you turn to Jamie and I have to say I'm delighted with him. First of all Rob Duffy came in and it was clear that he would be the perfect partner for him.

Rob is big, tall and strong, the perfect target man and foil for little Jamie, but, once again, that plan was cut short early on.

Rob picked up an injury against Newport away back in August and it was back to the drawing board.

He played alongside Vidane Oliver and now we've had a lot of success with him leading the line on his own with Alan Power just in behind him.

Through all of this change Jamie has been fantastic. We've chatted to him about his role, what is required of him and he has stuck to the task.

I've had to take him out of the attack at times, and that is about managing him physically and mentally, but overall, he has been brilliant.

His intelligence on the pitch and off it on the training ground is superb. He has that mature character that is needed to adapt and that has been crucial to him getting those goals.

He is no one trick pony, he has shown this season that he can change round to play in any formation and also he knows how important it is to defend from the front.

I could not be happier with him, or for him.

Last season was a bit of a quiet one for him. He struggled with injury, but he has been a different player with a proper pre-season under him.

Hopefully this can continue for the rest of the campaign.
