DAVID HOLDSWORTH: I'm determined to find a rough diamond for Lincoln City
Every supporter loves the idea of their club discovering a great talent from some unknown little team in a backwater league.
It is not an impossible dream and is one that I work tirelessly at to make sure it could become a reality for Lincoln City.
I'm pleased to say my record for pulling players out of lower reaches is quite strong. During my time as a manager I've found the likes of Ben Pringle, Louis Briscoe and Jake Speight to name a few and they have all gone to prove themselves at Conference level and higher.
To be honest, it is like panning for gold. You can spend hours shifting through a lot of rubbish before finally you see something that catches your eye.

And even then, it will need a lot of care and attention before it can be the star of the show.
It is not an easy job and it takes up a lot of time. I've spent plenty of cold, wet nights stood on the touchlines of little non-league clubs watching games which at times are not pleasant on the eye to say the least.
However, it is not a task you can dismiss and you certainly cannot take your foot off the pedal and prefer a night in.
Recently I've felt that I've barely got to my front door after a day at the club before I'm back in the car and heading out to watch another game.
You have to keep at it because at this level you cannot underestimate the importance of thinking through who you recruit.
I think that has clearly been underlined this season as I've worked hard to bring together a good group of lads.
I took time to look at how they would behave on and off the football pitch and they are all well aware of the situation the club is in.
They are honest and know the score financially here and that is the other crux of why it is important that I'm heading out and catching as many games as I can.
I simply cannot afford not to go and watch these players, I would hate to think about missing out on someone who could potentially make a big impact for Lincoln, or be sold on here as well.
The other side of it is I need to know what is out there because I do not want to be caught flat-footed when it comes to next season.
Lincoln cannot afford long-term deals and that includes myself. The players and myself are all contracted until the end of the season, which is understandable given the finances of the club.
Whether you like it or not, from after Christmas the players will be able to talk to other clubs, those are the rules. I would love consistency, especially as I feel we've got a good bunch of young lads here.
But we have to be honest and accept that some may want to move on because of personal or financial reasons. It happens.
If that does happen I hope that these hours on the road will mean that I'm well placed to find the new recruits to bring success to the club.
