Danny Lloyd is one of a number of Lincoln City players who have priced themselves out of new deals at Sincil Bank, the Echo understands.

Manager David Holdsworth has revealed he has finished rebuilding his squad for the 2012-13 season.

Lloyd (pictured right) impressed as the Imps avoided relegation with a late surge, but will not be rejoining the club for pre-season training unless the club's finances improve dramatically.

Holdsworth would not discuss individual players, but said player demands had not been realistic as the club operated on one of its lowest budgets for 40 years.

"There has been a group of players with higher expectations of what the club has in terms of finance," said Holdsworth.

"Those players are still under my surveillance. However, there has been no pay rises. Some players have out priced themselves and I would like to have kept them.

"People have to understand where we are financially, and those I've brought in understand that.

"Those I've brought in want to play for Lincoln City and want to play for me. There are those which have taken a pay cut to do so.

"Finances have been used up, we have made a few new signings and the squad is developing, that's where we are at the moment. The funds are tight and we are having to work very diligently."

Holdsworth has not been willing to wait around in his bid to start the next chapter of his City career.

The Imps boss replaced Steve Tilson in October 2011 and helped steer the club to safety while also being forced to reduce the playing budget at the same time.

This summer he is intent on preparing a squad that can make the next step up the table and has brought in five new faces in goalkeeper Paul Farman, defenders Andrew Boyce and Ashley Westwood, midfielder Gary Mills and forward Rob Duffy.

"My main expectation is to get the best out of the players," said Holdsworth.

"We are well aware of the situation this club is in, the chairman has made it clear the budget is one of the lowest in the club's history.

"We've got to get the best out of what we have available. It is going to be about the heartbeat of the club, not the money.

"We may not have the money that some of the other sides will have in the Blue Square Bet Premier, we are well aware of that and people might not be expecting much of us.

"The players we have brought in have a belief, but know it will be tough. We are going to work hard and we are going to have a spirit."

Several of the new signings have come in from the step below and were playing part-time football last season.

Holdsworth is confident that a full pre-season will bring them up to the level needed to compete in the division.

“There are players who have been part-time in the past and have not experienced this, but they know what I’m expecting of them and they are ready to take part,” said Holdsworth.

“We know what we can do with players who are part-time.

“We brought in a number last Christmas who were from part-time football and it took them a while to get up to speed, but by the end of the season it was clear they were on the pace.”

Pre-season training gets underway on June 29.

Bob Dorrian confirmed GG was right? You are going at it from the wrong angle. You are going at it from taking GG saying it was March and it was March that it happened. GG actually said it would be around the new year, it wasn't.”

“"However, the Chairman will be leaving us around the end of next season (possibly April 2013 - watch this space). Don't ask how I know this, I just do."

    No you don't.

"Before anyone questions me, I was dead right (almost to the exact date) about the financial stuff that came up in February/March - so you're just going to have to trust me on this one."

No you weren't and no we aren't. Take it LCB, they're dumb enough to believe you and will no doubt give you the attention you so obviously crave.”
