The tot from Scotter, near Gainsborough, is the daughter of ex-British champion Marc Grinhaff, who held the Continental title in the early 1990s.

But she wasn't happy with merely having a piggyback round the lake as her proud father was being towed by a speedboat.

Instead, tiny Isabelle is walking on water as one of the youngest water skiers ever to take up the sport.

Primary school teacher Mr Grinhaff has 33 years' experience and still spends much of his free time at the Lound Water Ski Club, near Retford.

"It was all Isabelle's idea. We went down there and she asked if she could ski, so straight away, she was in," said Mr Grinhaff, of Barnes Green, Scotter.

"Once she was in the water there was no stopping her."

"We went most weekends in the summer – and she picked it up shockingly easily. And once we built her confidence, she was happy in the water and she was successful first time. Now she adores it and we can't keep her out of the lake."

The toddler now has her own distinctive customised pink pair of skis.

She said: "I like water skiing. I was excited when I first started and I like going fast."

But proud dad Mr Grinhaff said he that there would be no pressure on his child to emulate his successes.

"I would like her to compete – but I won't make her," he said.

"Hopefully, she will be keen enough to get out and give it a go.

"We do hope that she can progress and there's certainly not many water skiers as young as Isabelle.

"There are plenty of children who ski in the snow and it's a very similar sort of style. As long as you can stand up and balance, you are all right."
